  2. Jo Ann Pierce says:

What would you consider the “softer” colors of the “Bright Winter” palette? I see lighter colors and icy colors in my fan but I’m having trouble seeing softer, Well, maybe some of the lighter colors look a little softer. Do lighter colors (but not icy) tend to be softer?
    Signed,
    A BRIGHT color lover
P.S. Softer would be a big challenge for me but I’ll try one color, maybe in a belt or scarf. . . . . maybe. 🙂

    • Jorunn Hernes says:

Hi Jo Ann, how wonderful that you’re challenging this seemingly absurd and contradictory statement of “the softer side of Winter” that Christine and I came up with in the Episode about resolutions and habits. Jorunn here, I’ll answer this comment since I’m a Bright Winter myself. Let’s start with clearing up from the start that none of the three Winter palettes are “soft” like the Summer palettes are. There is no haziness, no muted, greyed colours. Even the greys are metallic, crisp, and clear. So, if a Winter were to explore a more soft-spoken expression, it will be not by choosing muted and soft colours, but by seeking out more tranquil combinations of the colours of their palette. Here’s one example: All Seasons have a selection of neutrals in their palette. Using them as a larger portion of an outfit is a perfect way of expressing this hushed version of an outfit. Winter neutrals are still crisp, sharp, and clear, but used as the dominant backdrop and then with only a small accent of colour as contrast (a bright scarf, a red lipstick), there will be contrast enough to convey the Winter energy. And there is no absolute need for any Winter to feel that they must seek out more subdued ways of combining the colours of their Season. We are all unique and there is no one way to be any Season! You do not HAVE to seek out this way of being a Winter, especially Bright Winter. If you are a colour loving Bright Winter, feel free to celebrate this, and I encourage you to focus on seeking out the brighter side of Winter, to express yourself.
