Once upon a time…

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away there was a little girl…

She had blue eyes and long dark blonde hair. Her eyebrows and eyelashes were so delicate that they were hardly visible. Her skin was fair and slightly freckled.

CHAPTER 1

“Perhaps the greatest risk any of us will ever take is to be seen as we really are.”
Cinderella

She was considered a girl of typical Polish coloring… blue-eyed blonde, similar to so many others, which made her feel bland and boring. She was convinced she blended into the crowd and no one paid attention to her. The desire to be noticed made her dye her hair purple when she turned 15.

CHAPTER 2

“I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.”
Alice in Wonderland, L. Carroll

Fortunately, the purple hair dye washed out quickly and the world soon forgot about it.

The girl resisted new hair color temptations for the next few years. However, the feeling of fading and blending into the crowd could not simply go away. She often stood in front of the mirror wondering how it would feel to cross to the other side…

Then it finally happened. It started with subtle highlights. Warming of the color was next. Then golden streaks. The story continued with beige blonde, sunny blonde, honey blonde…

The girl got into the rabbit hole chasing the perfect blonde which was supposed to change her life forever. Do you think she managed to find it?

CHAPTER 3

“There are no magical shortcuts to solving your problems.”
Merida, Brave

The quest for the perfect blonde failed miserably. Frustrated and demotivated, the girl decided to try something totally different. And so the era of burgundy and eggplant began…

CHAPTER 4

“Once she gave her a little cap of red velvet, which suited her so well that she would never wear anything else.”
Little Red Riding Hood, The Grimm Brothers

There was something about the new hair color that brought peace to the girl – maybe it was the darkness? Or maybe the brightness? For a moment she paused in her rush and enjoyed this feeling.
It did not last long though. Soon being different, unique and bold became a thing. Burgundy turned out to be too plain and not dramatic enough. Therefore fiery red entered the stage.

CHAPTER 5

“Magic Mirror: Lips red as the rose, hair black as ebony, skin white as snow…”
Snow White

The new hair color was fun for a little while. It was like a costume belonging to a character from a different tale. She felt unrecognizable even to herself.

However, the boldness of the color clashed with the tranquil and reserved personality of the young woman. Her appearance and essence seemed to send out mixed messages to the viewers, making them confused and suspicious.

Moreover, she entered the corporate world where fiery red was inappropriate. The only thing that could cover the red was…

CHAPTER 6

“Even miracles take a little time.”
Fairy Godmother, Cinderella

The spell was finally broken by Prince Charming. Some say that he encouraged her to simply accept who she was. Others, that his idea of a princess involved nothing else but a blue-eyed blonde.

Perhaps we’ll never know what truly happened but the results were obvious. The wash out process was long and wearisome as if chemical browns and reds did not want to let go…

EPILOGUE

“All you need is faith, trust and a little bit of pixie dust.”
Peter Pan

I wish she hadn’t wasted so many years looking for ways to enhance her presence and get noticed. I wish someone had told her that she was perfect the way she was. And that it was NOT ABOUT THE HAIR COLOR at all.
